MEET DIANE HARPSTER, ARTIST/Certified Zentangle® Teacher

I have always loved to create.  As a child, I was surrounded by women who made beautiful things with their hands using fabric, yarn, flowers, and fruits of their gardens, and more.It was through them that I learned that creating not only brings joy to the creator but has the potential to bless others with beauty and joy as well.

As a textiles, clothing and design major in college, I enjoyed exploring fabric and fiber arts, art history, and clothing design.  In 2015, after several years given to the creative roles of wife, mom of two sons, crafter, and church worker, I took an introductory watercolor class.  I enjoyed the process but wasn’t sure what to do with it; painting is something for artists, after all.  The next step would become clear when the time was right.

Early in 2016 something opened as an invitation.  A connection emerged between daily quiet times, the ink drawings I had been doing and those beautiful watercolor effects.  This creating, the joy and surprise of color and pattern coming together along with the inspiration of words from poetry and scripture feels like a gift to my soul.  And I love when my art connects to bring joy and beauty to others as well.

In November 2020 I completed Zentangle® Teacher Certification training with Rick Roberts and Maria Thomas, founders of the Zentangle method, “an easy-to-learn, relaxing, and fun way to create beautiful images by drawing structured patterns.”  I have experienced the calming and focusing benefits of this meditative practice for several years and offer online and in person classes.  Anyone who can hold a pen and write their name can do this.  I love teaching it and seeing others experience the joy of reconnecting to their own creativity!

We are all artists, with something unique and beautiful that only we can bring to the world. Thanks for visiting my website. And enjoy creating!
